White and White

Thanks to Sandy's Inspiration at Sandy's Place the gold mirrors that I had picked up from thrift shops and had always been meaning to paint are now fresh and white.
Hubby is away so I had plenty of time -you know how it is. More time for projects and blogging I say.
I don't have any before shots but this is what I completed this weekend. PHEW!!
I find it hard to photograph mirrors and as they were already hung, the images are only part thereof - if that makes sense. I am sure you will get the idea.

Oh, and there was a quick cane stool makeover as well...thanks to Simone at Beach Vintage for the inspiration.

$3 cane stool from thrift store $2 piece of fabric from charity store in the UK. Love it!

French Moments

It is raining in Brisbane at the moment and has been all night. Great time to spend on the laptop and post images of our time in the French countryside in March this year.

Le Theil is a very small rural village about 10 minutes drive south of Gramat, in the Lot Department. From memory there were only 8 homes in this close knit farming community. Most homeowners spent the winter up in the northern parts of France, so it was very quiet time of year.

Our very comfortable accommodation was set in a very charming converted millers Maison. The best part was that friends of ours own the house so we enjoyed extra special attention.

You have no idea how many images I have captured of doors and shutters on French homes, I adore the individualism and the craftsmanship of each and every one of them. To me, they are the eyes of what lay behind.

I am a true romantic at heart!

Beautiful walnut farms are prolific in this area and are very attractive to me even in the winter. I love the starkness of winter.

This was the very intriguing next door neighbours house. Owned by an elderly couple who spent the winter in Normandy. Beautiful architecture.

I fell in love with what I thought was a very small cottage next door. I had great plans for it thinking that it could be converted into a small holiday cottage (Dream on!!) I was then told by another neighbour that this was in fact a garden shed. I want one like this in my backyard!

The handmade gate to the working sheep and cattle farm was indeed a work of art.

Another passion of mine, images of fences, walls and moss.

The French Countryside in March is just as beautiful in winter as it is in other seasons. I can only imagine the explosions of colour in the fields now though.

Imminent Contentment

I seemed to be having Op Shop withdrawals this week, so I ventured out to see what I could unearth in the world of thrift and imminent contentment.

I'm sure I was in the right place at the right time as I am delighted with my finds.

I can never pass up roses and I was delighted with the vintage tablecloth for $3 and the vintage rose print for $1...

...and then I saw these two cute French mustards pots for $2 and I knew I just had to have them - you know that feeling.

...bringing a bit more French into my home in Brisbane. Yay!!

There are a few other items but I will leave that for another post.

A not so Shabby House to play in...

How gorgeous is this?
I love the way that this playhouse is decorated white with bunting, gorgeous cushions and shabby prints. I love the window box by the front door!

Oh, and don't forget Katherine's giveaway here and remember you have until Wednesday to enter.

Our Weekend Getaway

Want some real back to nature solitude in the Australian Countryside?
Take the bike for a burn - we did!!
Christmas Creek, at the base of the Lamington Ranges and on the border of NSW is a bush getaway and only one and a half hours from Brisbane.

It seemed we were in the middle of nowhere and so very, very quiet.

With view of Neglected Mountain and waterfalls...what more could you want?...

...a few Lorikeets...

...a Wallaby with joey in her pouch...a Galah....

Will we make it back??...

We stayed at Cave Rock Cottages with all the necessities of life and more, find out more about them here .

Toile Bedside Dilemma

Just wanted to show my latest work in progress...there are two of these bedsides, the original paint was very thin and very hard to keep clean so I repainted them and then decided they needed a complete change. I already had some smokey gray toile fabric...

...and the dilemma I have is the drawer knobs.

I put the original white ones back on hoping to save some money and, as I thought, they look awful. I am thinking glass/crystal knobs.

What do you think?

Open the door...

Have you ever walked past a door and thought if only I could open the door and have a little peek?

or just walk slowly hoping that it will be opened from the other side so you can have a quick glance...

...or just imagine the cobbled courtyard with vines, topiaries and urns that may lay beyond...

or wonder why the side door on the church is beautiful but locked..

or wonder who lives here...

I do!

Okay I'll admit it! I am a self confessed French Dooraholic who adores the workmanship, the history and the bold beauty of these amazing structures. Is that so bad?

A favourite shop...

This is one of my favourite local shops I like to wander down to on the weekend. I can browse here for ages and there is always that affordable treasure....isn't there??

I am loving this chair

Then I spied this wrought iron setting painted in a very refreshing pale mint. Delicious!

...and then there is the Retro Room...

There is also a huge range of vintage clothing upstairs. Great for a rummage for that lime green polyester suit.

Thrifty Napkin decoupage makeover

From this

To this...

How I did it:

One Charity Shop basket find $2
Paint
Paper Napkin
Mod Podge

I painted the basket with some leftover white paint

Using 3 ply napkins I separated them as I only want to use the printed top one

When the paint was dry I painted the Mod Podge on to a section of the basket then glued some torn pieces of napkin. I wanted to retain the pattern of the lavender flowers so my pieces were quite large

Four layers of Mod Podge to seal and all done!

Because the napkins are so thin they take on the look of the wicker. Gorgeous!

A beautiful basket for my handmade lavender soap!

Have a great weekend everyone
