Broken and Re-purposed.

If you haven't popped over to  Deb's blog and read her hilarious 'Broken item of the week' posts you really must. I love her Canadian sense of humour and a giggle is always good for the soul right? Well.... I had to follow Deb's lead (of course) when two broken items 'appeared' in my kitchen.
My darling daughter fessed up immediately.

'Mum, I just opened the cupboard and they fell out!'
Hmmm...I don't remember my cupboards bursting at the seams.
Anyway...not being the end of the world and two CK mugs later...

The floral mug was still salvageable and because of my basic frugal nature and love of florals I just had to re-purpose...well try anyway. There was already a drainage hole on the side of it now which I lined with muslin and hey presto...

Turned it around so that the rather large drainage hole was not to be seen...ever!

So there you go...I never thought I would be potting a succulent into a broken CK mug!
Better go and check those cupboards though.

Simple Discoveries.

It was a tidy up kind of day in the garden for me today. The sun was shining and no rain all day for a change. Beautiful blue skies and new growth on the climbing roses as they jostle for their space on the gazebo.

There was a bit of weeding and trimming here and there!

My first discovery in the garden was the my little angel friend is now sporting a new hair colour. She is now a vibrant redhead!

My second discovery was  a carpet of delicately beautiful native violets  (Viola hederacea) under the patchwork of gardenia bushes and hibiscus. So beautiful to photograph.

That was most of my day in a nutshell...discovering.....enjoying the garden AND the sunshine.

Happy week.

Vintage Honey Pots and Pure Beeswax!

I have a small collection of  vintage honey pots that I wanted to share with you.  The blue vintage one is a new addition from my local market this morning.

I also bought some pure local beeswax. I have been wanting to make a solid hand cream with it for a long time now, but it is really hard to find.
Looks almost good enough to eat though!

After searching for recipes and a lot of experimentation, they look like these. I haven't quite perfected them yet but  they smell divine and work a treat already.

Melted beeswax and blended with extra virgin olive oil and scented with 100% natural lavender oil...mmmmm!

Relatively easy to make and so natural and moisturising. This shape fits easily into the palm of my hand and feels lovely and smooth.
Should I go on?
Had a great time developing these.

Have a lovely week.

Romantic Roses

The days are slipping by so quickly but I always, always, always, try to find the time to appreciate the beautiful and the simple things in life. So.....I am just loving these gorgeous soft pink romantic roses picked up at the markets today. The petals are so delicate yet the roses themselves are so huge and blowsy...(if there is such a word!).

If you have been reading my blog for a while you will know I sort have a passion...or well an obsession some may say, for photographing flowers and vintage china.

I really cannot believe it is Monday tomorrow. The start of another week already. Where does the time go?

Have a lovely week anyway.

Weekend Market Floral Finds.

A couple of great markets this weekend, and as expected from me, a few floral finds!
China plates and linen tea towels!

So cute!

A touch of retro.

A 1960's gem.

The lovely lady who I bought this tea towel from had never used it.

Ballerinas made in Ireland. :)

A lovely vintage floral linen tea towel.

I love a good fossick at a church market...so many bit and pieces.
There are two local monthly ones that I try and get to if I can.
Sure was a weekend of floral finds. Love them, even the poppies and the cute mice!

Have a fab week!
