Welcome to my home.

We live in a 70's brick highset house we bought a couple of years ago. Looking back I think we initially bought it for the established gardens, the double block and the pool area. The fact that we could not find our dream home and settled on something not quite what we wanted has nothing to do with the fact we kinda like it now!

Over-capitalising on these homes would be very easy and I am not quite sure how far we will go. However, when we first moved in the colours on the walls were very bright. A strong blue in the dining and kitchen area and what I call a 'bali' purple on the back deck railings and in the lounge room! Yuk!

This is the before photo:

There was also a mish-mash of window coverings, brown wooden venetians and roll up matchstick blinds. One of the first things I did was install white plantation shutters throughout the whole house. I love what the new dimension they have added to our home.

This is what it looks like today in our tiny dining area. The bright and sunny afternoon was not conducive for stunning photography today!

I love my dining table as it is a rich recycled pine. I am thinking of painting the dining chairs white and perhaps some of the table apart from the top. What do you think?

Oh...and bi-fold doors will be installed and I cannot wait to get rid of these ugly brown ones.

(The spot on the plate is embedded on my gorgeous vintage flow blue plate by the way... as they are so old.)

I hope you have enjoyed a little peek into my home.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Love the transformation and think that the chairs painted white with the table legs also painted white would look great. Love the plate holder and the plates are gorgeous.

Bon week-end a toi,

OMG...!!! WHAT A Totally fabulous transformation..

It looks just soo much better...& calming & relaxing..

Well...my advice...take it or leave it!! (prob leave it)..!!!

I would definately paint the chairs white...(or mixed shades of white & light blue/grey??) to add a bit of interest?? each one a slightly differing shade..

the top of the table I would also paint either white or a light french chic grey??

I would leave the border around the edge of the table..(if one) ...as is...so wooden..

the legs would have to be either white...or the french grey...(depending on what you chose re the chairs & the table top.)..

OKAY...that is what i am thinking...!!
french blue/grey tones with white...and a little bit of the original wood coming through re the edges..

then again...how good would...maybe that edging look painted black???

enough from me...I think I am embarrasing myself..

I love the transformation so much lighter and airy looking. My personal taste and opinion would be to paint the chairs off white or a bluey grey colour. The table off white.
Have a lovely weekend

Those plantation shutters look fantastic. They make such a big improvement on any room don't they. I think they could make a cardboard box look habitable, lol.
Your room looks so lovely. I would go with white paint on the chairs or a distressed french grey.

It looks wonderful and so suits a bayside life. I agree to paint the chairs a white with maybe a rubbed back look on the edges to give them some warmth and then maybe the legs of the table the same but leave the lovely timber as a contrast on the top. Show us some more, cheers Katherine

Pam, your home is so gorgeous. I love, love, love blue and white!

I think you've done a great job with plates on the wall. So tasteful as well having white walls. Agree about painting the chairs white, can't wait to see your little makeover next week!

Wow, what a great makeover, you must be so pleased? The plantation shutters were a great idea and I love your wall plates and the holders. I can't wait to see how your table turns out as I am having the same dilema!

I love seventies homes, and would have bought one instead of our eighties home if we could have found one - they have great proportions, so less walls to remove! I agree, the chairs would look great painted white and I would probably match the table legs in white too. Leave the top of the table tho' as it will be a nice contras. I also love plantation shutters and had them installed in all our bedrooms. Good luck with the painting. Hope your having a great weekend. Michelle

Love the transformation! Superb job! I love blue and white plates. They are extra special to me because they were always around when I was growing up. :)

Brilliant transformation and totally agree about the chairs and table. I have a large stripped pine table in my dining room and have painted all but the top off white and I love it.
