White Magic Makeover

Remember my post  showing my small dining area? Well things have changed and it's all white!..no pun intended...not really!

When I bought this dining table about 6 months ago at our local 'Everyday Living' store, I did mention to the sales woman that I probably would paint it as I could not find exactly what I wanted. The look she gave me indicated that she thought I was mad.

All the comments from my blogging friends inspired me to change this setting into something I would be happy to look at everyday. So thank you!

Anyway, this orphan table was drastically reduced in their closing down sale...even better. The chairs are not part of their 'Hamilton' range as is the table, they were actually from a local secondhand shop. Brilliant condition strong and sturdy - just right for men in the family... you know what I mean.

I could not bear to paint the top of the table as it is a really rich recycled pine with knots, and gnarly things. So I left it as it is.

I lightly sanded the table and the chairs, painted three coats of 'Ibis White" Bristol paint. Just have to do a bit of tweaking around the tile detail on the leg posts and then a coat of satin varnish to protect it and all done.

I am really pleased with how this turned out. I love it!

Oh WOW, that looks fantastic! We have the exact same chairs and I would love to paint them but hubby isn't sure...when he gets home tonight I am going to show him your beautiful transformation and if that doesn't convince him I will be very surprised (and probably just do it anyway, lol). Well done :)

Oh yes, much better now. I have never understood people thinking you shouldn't paint timber. Mind you, I'm glad it was you and not me.
I'm looking forward to seeing a lovely bowl of your pink roses on the table.

Wow, it looks great. Thanks for sharing your after shots, you have convinced me to do the same. Can I ask if you spray or hand painted? You must be thrilled with the outcome. Job well done! :-)

Hi Jenny, No spray gun around here! Definately a labour of love painted with a brush! Huge weekend job in this perfect weather but well worth it!

I really like what you did with your furniture. It looks good with the timber top and white legs. Those strawberries make a great centre piece too! xx

FANTASTIC! Can you believe how good it looks?! Now you can have lots of fun with different colour placemats and tablecloths too.
The finished result makes all the hard work so worth it eh.

Wow, this is a marvelous make-over! Congratulations for the final look and your idea :)) I love this also, a lot! Specially that you left the top of the table like it was. You're right - its better so. Sandra Z.

Brilliant! I would have done the same thing (paint it white, leave the top untouched). It stands out beautifully, before it blended too much with the floor.
