My Christmas tablecloth this year was re-purposed from a double Doona/Duvet/Quilt cover. I purchased it from a thrift store and it was in perfect condition - until I got to it!
I was drawn to it because of the red and white colour combo and the striped French/European look I was seeking. A heavy woven cotton - just perfect, with two sets of red stripes. As the fabric was in one piece (apart from the quilt opening) there was no seam at one end so I was able to lengthen the tablecloth easily without having an unsightly seam down the middle. Trimmed all the edges and hemmed them - a brand new life for a gorgeous piece of fabric.
I had just enough fabric left to make 6 serviettes to go with it. So it was zoom, zoom and more zooming on the sewing machine.
I only wish I had bought the other cover that was right next to it in the store - didn't follow my intuition that day!
I also found these gorgeous linen tea towels.
Frangipani and Tibouchina from the garden this morning.
Have a fabulous day!

Love the tea towels too. I love good tea towels. Makes drying the dishes a pleasure instead of a chore then.

Pam,
that fabric is beautiful. I can't believe it was a doona cover ... it looks much better as a tablecloth and napkins.
Clever you ... So thrifty and so French!
Sending best wishes your way for 2011, have agreat dayxx
Wow, gorgeous Pam. Don't you hate that, when you walk away from something and then you think why didn't I buy that??
Its the first day of swimming lessons today and it always brings the cold weather, today no exception. The kids will have to wear a wet suit.
Hope you have a lovely day also. Take care, Tamarax
