Bumblebees

I have seen plenty of bees and wasps in Brisbane but never a big fat bumblebee like this one in NZ recently. I remember them from childhood and was always fascinated by them. They just look so cute, fat and furry in their black and gold stripey pyjamas.

So, when I saw this one I just had to whip my camera out to capture the moment. Do you have bumblebees where you are?

I will be drawing my giveaway tomorrow, if you want to enter comment on this post. Good luck.

My goodness ... he's fat and furry, isn't he?

I know at my children's school they had native bees which were very innocuous and buzzed about everyone with no fear of stinging. I wonder if that fat furry one is a native to New Zealand?

Aren't they gorgeous! Yes, we have them in Tassie - I assumed they were AUstralia wide. That's interesting. Maybe they like the cool weather :)

What a handsome bee. Just like out of a story book! No bees here, but many a wasp I'm afraid. Pleasantly though lots of butterflies lately with pretty colours. Great photos Pam. x

A bit early in the UK for them yet, but yes my garden will be alive with them quite soon. I love watching them, they're so industrious! (Wasps however are quite another matter...)

Aren't they lovely Pam. We don't have them here either, just the normal run of the mill types. My NZ friend used to talk about the fuzzy bumble bees. She grew up in Napier.

Thanks for your lovely comments, Tam x

We have lots of bees here but I hear they are suffering from some illness and are dying off. Tragic.

I've already been seeing the bees in the Carolina jessamine vines. Love the idea of their "pyjamas."

I found my way here via Claudia's blog--like the look of it and what I have read so far.
Here on the North Atlantic coast of the U.S.(I live in New England). we also have big, fat bumblebees(which we may see in a month or so as it is early in the season yet for bees to be out), which move drowsily along and are not the "angry" type of bee at all. In fact, I have petted a few bumble bee backs in the past!
