Larkspur, Jonquils and Vintage Finds

Having never grown Larkspurs in my own garden before, I was quite excited when they started to flower. The colours are so deep and really vivid...just so in sync with my blue passions at the moment.

Last year I was lucky enough to spend a few months in the UK with my husband's family. We were there in the winter and towards the end of February when the first spring bulbs appeared along roadsides, in fields and in gardens, my sister in law became a new woman. (Well, almost!) There was a spring in her step, her eyes lit up, more humming and smiling was going on as she knew that her world was about to change!

I will never forget it. Even though it was still cold the new growth  heralded a warmer and brighter change of seasons.

My first jonquils are showing their pretty heads and I thought of her today and how she felt last winter. Although it is not officially spring in Brisbane and our change of seasons are very mild, I look around and feel grateful for our clear blue skies and it is not that cold really....a completely different attitude.

I bought this lovely rose doily at the thrift store the other day - of course red roses, well that is what I am calling them. The roses were stapled on to the doily would you believe! Needless to say that I am happy to report they are now stitched on.

At the moment, it is under a lamp on a gorgeous vintage cupboard that I bought from Katherine from the oldboathouse at the Cottage Garden Nursery.  As far as I know, teeth were not chipped when they found this cupboard! I will share this amazing find with you in another post.

Now for something really sweet that I found yesterday - a vintage honey pot. It is a lovely green with crazing all over it - just perfect for that sweet sticky stuff.

Have a great weekend. Pam x

Love your flowers and your vintage finds. The perfume coming from my jonquils is so strong my daughter asked me to take them outside. No way!
Enjoy the sunshine this weekend.

Oh Pam your garden is sounding beautful. I so agree about the changes of season and admit to feeling excited by jonquils even though it is through the florist and not my garden that I get to enjoy these special wintery flowers. Glad you are enjoying your cupboard, it is such a cutie, cheers Katherine xx

Hi dear Pam

These are gorgeous - I have a thing for blue too!

It's a dream of mine to visit the UK in early spring just to see the sheets of bluebells in the woods.
We're always there in Summer and it's too late!
C'est la vie...

Isn't larkspur lovely!..it comes in about 4 or 5 different shades but I think I love that gentian blue the best. Did you know that if you have enough & you can bear to pick it, it can be hung upside down & dries beautifully, retaining it's colour so well. What a perfect honey pot. Such a hoot the "roses" being stapled on. Have a great weekend..how's the marmalade going?..any left? The grapefruit are ready here so must make some more myself. Much love Catherine x

I am totally jealous of your gorgeous flowers, our garden is very dull at the moment. Your honey pot is gorgeous with its crackle aged shell. Have a lovely weekend, Tam x

Larkspur is a favourite of mine too, though I've never grown it my Mom used to have it in the garden when I was young. Few things are better than spring bulbs giving their show of beautiful flowers!
What glorious doilies, love the roses though I'm sure they're better WITHOUT the staples!
The honey pot is superb, I do see them occasionally but daren't buy one as I just KNOW it'd devolop into ANOTHER collection ;o)
Have a great Springtime weekend whatever you're doing Pam.
Best wishes

Oh to have time to go shopping... I am in withdrawal! My intern starts tomorrow so I hope that she takes some of the pressure off! I have been so busy I can hardly breath! Catch you very soon! I am off to heart you on etsy! X
