Crochet ...

I have been totally inspired of late with all of the amazing crochet blogs out there. It has been a very long time since I have used a crochet hook, let alone had any wool in the house. Taught as a child and with a sniff of a challenge, inspiration takes over and I just have to follow through with this now.

What size hooks do you use for the ply of the wool? Hmmm... not as straightforward as I thought....Mum always used to use 4 ply wool...that's all I knew! I found this Australian site useful over here. I soon discovered that there are so many different types of wool out there now. All you knitters and crocheters will know what I am talking about. Pure wools, acrylic, cotton, alpaca, bamboo...the list is endless...and a new world for me.

So, I have been playing around with colours, checking my tension, stitches etc...

....seeking and finding inspiration from so many blogs including the creative Mrs Tiff 's blog

and over here at the colouful Lucy's blog Attic24

Hmmmm...I already have a polystyrene wreath which I could use...should I dare?

If you have any crochet tips and tricks on which wool you use, what works best for you I would love to hear from you.

Absolutely loving this wreath though!

I'm no help at all to you I'm afraid as I know very little about crochet. My nan taught me when I was very young and I have no idea how to do it now. Do you read the Mollie Makes magazines? They often have stories and projects about crochet, they even gave away a hoock and thread to crochet a flower. I tok one look at the instructions and decided against it!

Love that wreath. Go for it. I just use scrap wool from charity shops,so the ply can vary. I have a jug full of different size hooks and find that if I can easily pull the hook through the loop, then it's the right size. Good Luck.xx

Yes Pam do it, that wreath is stunning! I love crochet, but cannot do it to save my life...my grandma tried to teach me but I could never get past daisy chains. I looked at tutorials on youtube and got lost after a few seconds. So I just hunt out crochet blankets in op shops and admire someone else's skills :) I have quite a collection now, I just love all the bright colours that people have used in them, using up bits of wool I guess.

Can't wait to see your projects!

xx Karen

LOVE that wreath! I would love to be able to crochet. It's definitely on my to-do list! Now all I have to do is find some time to do it....

Oh lovely Pam, so happy to hear you have pulled out the wool! I am now totally addicted! I have extended my skills by loads and loads of practise. I had so many frustrations and failures when I started I gave up a few times in tears! I was determined though. Attic 24 really took me by the hand and helped me experience my first successes. I have made some delightful little creatures as well as taking on my first big ripple blanket project (Attic 24). I have made endless flowers and pretty roses... I have really neglected my blogging as every spare moment (and there aren't many) is spent hooking away! Crochet crazy.... Hmmmm you know what I mean? Catch you next hols (two weeks) for coffee and crochet! X

As Tiff says above, Attic 24 is really the best place to get back into crochet and for inspiration on colours and design. I have just got back into it and I have made a few things inspired by this website. I can't follow patterns but I can always understands Lucy's tutorials (think the step by step pictures help) Also when it comes to yarn I always use acrylic. I'm on a tight budget and can't afford anything 'posh' but I think acrylic is great, fab colours and washable. Good luck xx
