Spent the night in Mission Beach last night on the Cassowary Coast.
We did look out for a Cassowary but unfortunately we didn't see one.
There are plenty of cassowary warnings around this part of the world.

After the devastating Cyclone Yasi in Feb 2011 this island resort is still closed.
There are still signs of the devastation of the cyclone here with this abandoned beach front home.
Some homes have been shut up and just left.
Life goes on for most though, businesses are thriving slowly and the eateries and restaurants are busy which is fabulous to see.
and this one. Although, at the other end of this building is a fully operational restaurant, where we enjoyed the best barramundi ever!

Moving further north we are now at Kurramine Beach
Kurramine boasts it own gorgeous little chapel by the sea.
Moving along further up the coast we drive through sugar cane plantations...
Outside an Innisfail florist shop, yes a florist shop, were all of these fresh goodies. Bananas and pawpaws up here are to die for.
They haven't spent time in the cool store, fresh off the trees and are so sweet and tasty.
These paw paws were from 50cents upwards.
We are loving this stunning and picturesque countryside...banana plantations.
A cloudy day today and because the clouds are so low this sugar cane plantation looks almost eerie.
We are now in Port Douglas and will be checking out Mossman Gorge and the Daintree. I am really keen to see where the rainforest meets the sea, and more spectacular scenery.

Oh Pam, I'm quite homesick with this post. I used to live in Port Douglas and Mossman and worked at the newspaper up there. It's like another world. I used to drive to the Mossman Gorge and take my car and Noodle on the ferry across the Daintree River to Cape Tribulation. I was wild, and free and single and used to roll my own cigarettes and go out to the Reef and drink XXXX at my desk on a Friday afternoon! Those were the days.
Oh my goodness I loved looking at the buildings and that church....but what amazed me is the price of your fruit...this is like gold to us!
This post bring back great memories of a holiday I shared with my sister and mum in the mid 90's. We just loved it. How sad to see those buildings all damaged and boarded up still and I had no idea Dunk Island was still closed. Really terrible.
