A Walk In The Park.

We are copping our fair share of rain in Brisbane these days. Some of our local roads have been temporarily closed . Our local area has received almost all of it's average January rainfall in less than a week. I am taking you on a walk down to our local park today. Our beautiful park which usually has a small babbling brook running through it...

Walking down the pathway and we were stopped in our tracks and could not go any further. There is usually a pathway over the river. Today it is a torrent of streaming water which has turned into almost the white water rapids.

The babbling brook has come over the banks and spreading through the park.

Even the ducks are saying enough is enough. They were on the path waggling their tails and trying to dry themselves!

The lump that you can see in the centre of this photo was actually a little island which had a tree on it. It was a sanctuary for all of the birds and ducks. The sheer magnitude of this fast water has moved this mass.

Then we came across some colour under a gum tree and we were quite confused as to what it could be...until we got closer...

Funghi...a gorgeous shade of  red and it was really a bright red in the rain. Upon closer inspection it looks like under sea coral.

As for this funghi, lovely and colourful, but had an awful smell about it.

We are not in any danger of flooding where we are, my husband assures me. But watching all the reports of the major flooding everywhere else my thoughts go out to the families who have had to leave their homes. families who have lost their homes, and their liveliehoods. According to the weather reports there is more rain to come.

Rain , Rain, Go Away!!

Hi Pam, we have very similar pictures out our way but thankfully we are on high ground here and not affected other than the dampness creeping in... ;-)

I am so sorry you had to stop your beautiful walk this am because of the flooding - it is so awful to see all the pictures of gardens/wildlife etc. I hope you on higher ground & not to close to that river. Is intersting about those fungi...looks like they came out of an egg? So curious?

I've been thinking of you with the flooding, I'm so glad you're all OK.
Beautiful photographs - stunning funghi - I'm sure the awful smell is a warning that these ones are NOT to be eaten!!!!
We are sweltering in Auckland, my husband is now sailing up in Spirits Bay and says it's fantastic - why didn't I go, at least I would have the cool sea breeze!!!

All this rain is just awful. I can't stop thinking about the people who have been and will be affected.
Sunny, our golden retriever, is a Queensland gal from Gympie. I saw on the news that Gympie is in trouble which made me wonder what's happening to all the animals. I can't bear to think of people being separated from their pets.

Hi Pam, just popping in to see how you are going? I've been semi glued to the tv and Facebook, watching the horror of the floods unfold. It's beyond strange seeing all the places I know so well under water. I grew up in the Caboolture area and it's just shocking to see such massive flooding.
I hope you and yours a keeping dry and safe.
It's a very dark time for Qld. Heartwrenching!
